The first round continues at
Players Championship Finals, with
Chris Dobey the main winner so far in Minehead. He saw off Raymond van Barneveld in the second game on the main stage.
It was only a 90 average for Dobey as he prevailed in a 6-3 win over the five-time World Champion. But he took advantage of poor doubling hitting 6/18 compared to only 3/14 from the Dutch legend.
It was close early on, but Dobey took the impetus with an 88 checkout for a 12-darter to break and go 4-2 up. He went one away from there with a 71 checkout. But Van Barneveld remained in the tie for a leg longer with a 63 outshot, only for Dobey to seal the deal next time around at 6-3.
Matt Campbell started Main Stage proceedings and he recovered from 5-3 down to deny Irish talent, Dylan Slevin. It was a 6-5 win for the Canadian who sealed it with a 139 checkout en route.
While over on Stage Two, it was drama as
Kevin Doets survived four missed match darts to down Jose de Sousa in a deciding leg to seal the opening win. It was Double Dutch delight as
Maik Kuivenhoven dumped out one of the best players usually on the ProTour in Krzysztof Ratajski 6-4 with four 180's along the way.
