Chris Dobey has sealed his maiden PDC major title with victory over Rob Cross in the final of 2023 Masters defeating 'Voltage' 11-7 in Milton Keynes on Sunday night.
Dobey produced a 94 average, four 180's and with Cross missing 17 darts at a double throughout the tie pounced on a poor display on the outer ring to become the latest new winner in the PDC.
'Hollywood' will also hope that like the past two years in which Jonny Clayton and Joe Cullen have forced their way in through this route that he will be part of the Premier League Darts line-up which is set to be announced on Monday morning.
To start the tie, Dobey doubled his lead early on at 2-0 but Cross returned for successive legs to leave it fairly even going into the first break at 3-2 to 'Hollywood'.
Cross crashed in a 126 checkout for parity at 3-3 but Dobey after they exchanged legs pivotally pounced on three missed darts from Cross and made it 6-4 with a 75 checkout.
After the break, Dobey continued to hold throw making a three-leg buffer at 7-4 and 8-5 before hitting a show piece 100 checkout to go two away at 9-5.
He missed 146 to go one away though and Cross reduced the deficit to 9-6. He returned with a 144 checkout from nowhere with Dobey sat on 49 to go one away. He did do so with a superb double 18 which nearly fell out.
He missed 170 for the title on the bull and Cross returned only not to get a shot at 100. But Dobey missed two match darts only for Cross to lose concentration on 57 allowing 'Hollywood' back for three clear and darting destiny was achieved.
