Gerwyn Price wore ear defenders to try and drown out the crowd but the former World Champion could not drown out the brilliance of
Gabriel Clemens with 'The German Giant' continuing to break new ground with an incredible 5-1 win at the PDC
World Darts Championship.
Clemens sealed it with a 99.94 average, eight 180's and a high checkout of 136 as he delights a huge crowd of Germans inside the Alexandra Palace. Becoming the first German to reach the Quarter-Finals, he now breaks new ground reaching the semi-finals. He faces Michael Smith.
Price began superbly with a 140 checkout to hold and followed it up with a 110 checkout to break. A 74 checkout saw him seal the set.
Price hit a second 180 but Clemens held on double 20. Price busted double nine and Clemens broke on double four. An 87 checkout saw Price responded with an 11-darter as he looked to throw for a decider. But he didn’t with Clemens hitting double 18 for 1-1.
Price went six darts into a nine-dart finish before pinning double 12 to hold. Break darts were spurned by Price and Clemens levelled. A 76 checkout saw Clemens break to go one away from a 2-1 sets lead which he sealed.
He produced a 136 checkout to go to the brink of a 3-1 sets lead. Price missed three darts to hold and Clemens returned for double 10 snuck in last dart.
A 180 and 81 saw Price start his change to ear defenders with an opening leg before Clemens drew level. But Clemens went one away from a 4-1 sets lead as despite drowning out the crowd noise, he couldn’t drown out the brilliance of ‘The German Giant’ who hit a 46 checkout to go one away.
