Jonny Clayton has claimed a fourth major title of the year adding the
World Series of Darts Finals to his triumphs at The Masters, Premier League and World Grand Prix.
Clayton defeated Dimitri van den Bergh in an 11-6 triumph with a 101 average, eight 180's and 11/25 on the doubles with two ton plus checkouts.
Van den Bergh himself played his part with a 101 average, five 180's and 42% on his doubles but 'The Ferret' was like most of this year just too good in the end.
Clayton started well breaking throw with a 61 checkout to double his lead early on. But Van den Bergh turned the screw and took out 112 to break back and then went on a run of three legs on the spin by the interval to lead 3-2.
'The Ferret' stopped the rot and broke back for parity at 3-3 and consolidated from there to make it 4-3 before an 82 checkout levelled it for Van den Bergh once more.
A third 180 and double eight saw Van den Bergh regain the upperhand from there with a break only for Clayton to head into the interval at 5-5 after a 13-darter.
It was another quality leg from Van den Bergh but a pressurised 57 couldn't be hit and Clayton held to make it 6-5.
But the closeness of the tie continued as Van den Bergh pinned double 18 for 6-6. Again we went as Clayton pinned 64 for a 7-6 lead. But an 11-dart break brought some distance between the World Grand Prix champion and his opponent at 8-6.
After a poor leg, Clayton produced a clinical 103 checkout to make it 9-6 and with a 180 and 121 checkout to go within a leg on return at 10-6.
Van den Bergh was sat on 36 but Clayton claimed it on 96 for another title.
