Clayton clinches second ranking title of 2023 with Rock win at Players Championship 12

Just like his opening title of the season, Jonny Clayton has defeated Josh Rock in the final triumphing in Players Championship 12 in Leicester.

Clayton saw off Rock 8-5 in a superb clash which went back and forth but in the end, he reeled off four consecutive legs to claim it 8-5 and seals a massive confidence booster heading into the Premier League play-offs.

Clayton missed the bull for an opening 81 checkout and Rock held throw with a 117 checkout for 1-0. Clayton hit 41 for 1-1.

A 180 left double 15 for Rock but he slipped inside and Clayton left 24 which he pinned on double three for 2-1. But Rock got the break straight back at 2-2.

Amid pressure though Clayton smashed in a 160 checkout for 3-2. But Rock hit another 180 to look for another break but couldn’t make it parity allowing Clayton to punish again on double four for 4-2.

Rock levelled though on double 10 with back-to-back legs for 4-4 and Rock was throwing for 5-4. Clayton stopped a mini-rot making it 5-5.

A 121 on double 14 not the bull like his usual route saw Clayton go 6-5 up and he was throwing to go one away. A 116 checkout saw him do just that and he sealed it on double eight.
