Jonny Clayton is through to the second round of the PDC
World Darts Championship after seeing off Keane Barry in an absolute epic.
Clayton came from 2-1 down to defeat Barry 3-2 with a record 10 ton-plus checkouts which is the highest for a five set match.
'The Ferret' averaged 103 with eight 180's and 46% on the doubles as the challenger lays down a marker for the biggest title of all.
Barry took the game to Clayton and produced a 104 checkout for the opening break. But Clayton returned to break back on double eight. It was raining ton plus finishes with Clayton hitting a 116 checkout followed by a 136 to win the set.
On return, it was Barry’s turn with a 121 on the bull to go 1-1 in the set. Under pressure, Clayton couldn’t pin a 76 checkout and Barry returned for a 50 checkout to go 2-1.
It went to a decider but Clayton hit double 20 for an 80 checkout and Barry smashed in double four for the set.
A 100 checkout saw Barry break throw to begin the third set. Clayton pinned double 18 to make it 1-1. A 114 on double 20 saw Barry make it 2-1 as he went one away from the set.
A 122 checkout on the bull saw Barry go 2-1 up in sets. Clayton hit back going six darts into a nine-dart finish and broke throw to go 2-1 up as he aimed to tie it up.
A 100 checkout saw Clayton tie it up at 2-2 in sets. A 150 checkout saw 10 ton plus finishes in 18 legs as Clayton hit the mark again to go 1-0 up in the deciding set. An 81 checkout saw Clayton go one away from the win. A 78 checkout saw Clayton claim six consecutive legs as he claimed the victory in style.
