Jonny Clayton is the final player through to the Quarter-Finals of the
World Grand Prix after seeing off Jose de Sousa in a superb display 3-1 in sets.
Clayton will now take on Krzysztof Ratajski in tomorrow's Quarter-Finals after coming from a set down to see off 'The Special One' with four ton plus checkouts including a high of 116, three 180's and a 94.95 average.
To begin the tie, De Sousa had the chance to break in the opening leg but missed two at double four and Clayton returned with a 60 checkout.
The Special One levelled up with double six to make it 1-1. A 180 followed by double 16 saw Clayton surge into a 2-1 lead.
But advantage swung the way of De Sousa with Clayton failing to get in till his fifth dart and double 18 was pinned.
Again this was the case and De Sousa left double 16 with time on his side as he claimed it on the second visit and the first set was his.
A 67 checkout saw De Sousa lead with a hold of throw. Clayton missed bull for an 86 checkout hold but a golden opportunity for a 50 checkout went with Clayton returning for double eight.
A break went the way of Clayton who claimed a 10-darter to go one away from levelling up.
Clayton missed a 140 for a superb end to the set but De Sousa pounced this time with a 98 checkout as the advantage flipped this time to the Portuguese who had the throw for the set.
Two visits without a treble for De Sousa allowed Clayton first towards a finish with a 70 checkout to make it 1-1.
A 60 checkout saw Clayton open up with the lead which he followed up for a 110 checkout for a 2-0 lead.
De Sousa missed double 18 for a 150 checkout and Clayton crushed his hopes with a 100 checkout to make it 2-1.
A 116 checkout saw Clayton continue to race towards the finishing line at 1-0 up. De Sousa couldn't pin 80 and his slide towards the exit door continued as Clayton smashed in double 20 to go one away.
De Sousa kept himself in proceedings with double 20 but Clayton was superb with a 152 start to begin his throw followed by a 140. De Sousa chipped in with a 160 start as the finishing line drew closer.
A 112 checkout saw Clayton finalise the victory in a superb display from 'The Ferret'.
