Jonny Clayton will face Josh Rock in the first confirmed tie of the Last 16 at the 2022/23 PDC World Darts Championship in a tough test against Brendan Dolan.
Clayton sealed a 4-1 sets win with six 180's, a 93 average and 48% on the outer ring in a scoreline which didn't reflect the tie as 'The History Maker' pushed him towards the end of the tie.
Dolan broke initially on double 16. But Clayton pinned the same target to level at 1-1 and then a third straight leg with the same target pinned as he went one away from the set.
Dolan missed 120 for a hold but Clayton couldn’t get a dart at 161 which allowed the Northern Irishman back for double 10 for 2-2. But a 41 checkout on double 16 saw Clayton seal it.
Both held onto their throw to begin set two but Clayton broke throw on double 16. A 108 checkout saw Dolan responded to break back and he was throwing for 1-1 in sets.
He missed 157 on double 20 and Clayton pinned the same target for 2-0 in sets. Dolan missed 84 for 2-0 and Clayton broke back in the third set.
Dolan went five darts into a nine-dart finish and pinned double four for 2-1 as he looked towards a first set.
Dolan missed 85 for the set and Clayton made it 2-2 before hitting double two for 3-0. He pinned double eight to begin set four.
Clayton missed 130 for 2-0 and Dolan broke back on double six. A 48 checkout saw him go one away. An 84 checkout saw him send it to a decider. A 70 checkout saw Dolan prolong it.
Clayton missed 121 on the bull to go one away but Dolan missed a dart to hold and ‘The Ferret’ pinned double eight for 2-0. Dolan hit a fifth 180 and despite pressure made it 2-2. A 116 checkout saw Clayton seal it.
