Gabriel Clemens is through to the Quarter-Finals of the PDC
World Darts Championship ending the run of Alan Soutar in a 4-1 sets win.
Clemens as a result is the first German to reach the Quarter-Finals of the showpiece tournament breaking new ground as a result. He hit a 93 average, five 180's, 42% on the doubles and two ton plus checkouts including 148 and 114.
Clemens swept the opening set with a 114 checkout en route for the German. The former missed 70 for a break in the second set but Soutar sat at 0/5 after missing further darts to hold and the German went 1-0 up throwing to double his lead.
A 104 checkout from Soutar though saw him hit back. He left 68 from 164 but survived break darts before finally hitting double two for 2-1. An 80 checkout saw him level at 1-1 in sets.
A 96 checkout saw Clemens go 2-0 up. He hit a 62 checkout though to regain the lead going 2-1 up in sets. Soutar missed 121 on the bull for the lead in set four but Clemens missed two break darts and the Scot returned to lead.
Soutar missed a dart from 90 to break and Clemens held but Soutar pinned double 18 to go 2-1 up as he looked to make it 2-2 in sets.
Clemens sent it all the way with an 87 checkout. He missed 130 on the bull for the set but returned with Soutar unable to get a dart at 161. The former hit double eight to go 3-1 up in sets.
Clemens missed 121 on double 14 but returned for double seven to go 1-0 up. A 148 checkout saw Clemens go one away. He missed 87 for the match and Soutar broke back. Soutar sent it the distance on double six.
Clemens missed a match dart at double 20 but Soutar missed the big number and would only get one dart at double for the set which he missed on double 18. The German sealed it as a result.
