Clemens secures progression to second round, Wright clinical on finishing in edging past Harrington

Gabriel Clemens is through to the second round at the Grand Slam of Darts while Peter Wright is in pole position to also secure his progression.
Clemens defeated Daryl Gurney in an excellent victory for 'The German Giant' which set up a clash between Brendan Dolan and Gurney to secure the other place out of the group.
Wright saw off Ryan Harrington in a real exhibition towards the end of finishing from 'Snakebite' who is using his new darts once again which included a spectacular 153 checkout among the three ton plus he hit.
Gurney was under the cosh early doors against Clemens and after he missed four darts at doubles, the German converted double seven to lead 2-1.
This lead didn't last long though with Gurney squaring it up at 2-2 but it was Clemens who went back up at 3-2 with a 106 checkout.
Gurney collected a break of throw at 4-3 up and a 76 checkout but Clemens forced a decider with a 77 checkout. He used that decider to his advantage and claimed the victory which as a result secured his progression to the second round.
In Wright's tie with Harrington, the latter finished 92 to keep pace with 'Snakebite' in the early going but Wright ended up getting his nose back in front with a 118 checkout which saw him lead 2-1.
Harrington continued his fine finishing with an 81 checkout to draw it level at 2-2 but a 124 and 153 checkout in quick succession saw 'Snakebite' go one away and he concluded it with a 32 checkout to defeat 'The Animal'.

- Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
