Dave Chisnall’s comeback exploits have continued for the second night
running with a stunning victory over Joe Cullen to reach the semi-finals of the
World Grand Prix.
Chisnall came from two sets down against Ryan Joyce and was ultimately very
fortunate to win through but he showed his battling qualities once more against
‘The Rockstar’ to win through.
Cullen was handed the first set on a plate with Chisnall squandering
nine set darts in the deciding leg. ‘The Rockstar’ headed into the lead and
began the requisite set with a 120 checkout for the opening leg.
It once again went to a decider and it was again Cullen who took it
after five missed set darts from Chisnall and he doubled his lead in a tale of
missed doubles.
Chisnall started to find his way back into the tie though and it all
began with an excellent 150 checkout from the St Helens ace. Two missed darts
this time from Cullen saw Chizzy double his lead and he claimed the set to
halve his deficit.
From nowhere, he found himself in the ascendancy and after Cullen missed
three darts to go to within one of the match, Chisnall had the lead in set four
and he converted with an excellent 155 checkout.
A final set was back on parity and it was four consecutive legs for
Chisnall as he finished 75 to lead. Cullen missed two darts to level and the
former doubled his lead.
Cullen continued to battle with a break to dispel Chisnall going one
away and it went all the way to a deciding leg. It went the way of the latter
with Chisnall converting double 10 for an 18-darter after Cullen put himself
down to 75 from 115.
