Comedian Tim Vine looks back on Borland nine-darter: “The more you watch it, the more you realise he’s getting booed by the crowd because he’s Scottish”

Tim Vine is a comedian and also a well known darts fan and spoke to Sky Sports as of late to give his memory of his favourite nine-dart finish ever which goes to Willie Borland’s effort in the last leg of his tie with Bradley Brooks last year at the World Darts Championship.

“I’ll tell you my favourite nine-darter is Willie Borland, I love the commentary on it. Somehow the fact that he doesn’t think of a third word, he goes pure theatre, pure darts, pure darts and shouts it twice,” said Vine to Sky Sports.

“I think I tweeted a clip of it at the time because Willie Borland leaps up in the air. The more you watch it, the more you realise he’s getting booed by the crowd because he’s Scottish. But they can’t help themselves the crowd, they’re darts fans first so they might have been booing but it switches from that to yes, it’s fantastic.

“But what I love about John Part is they show in slow motion Willie Borland leaping in the air and John Part says something like no celebration could’ve done that moment justice but he gave it his best go.”

“I’d love to see Michael Smith win the World title because he’s such an amazing player, how much it would mean to him. Bristow will always have top door in terms of my favourite player but it’s hard to look past Phil Taylor because of the record.”
