Niels Zonneveld's opening match at the
World Darts Championship ended in tragedy. Not only did he lose 3-0 to Lewy Williams, but thanks to the defeat, Zonneveld also lost his PDC Tour Card.
"Maybe there was also too much pressure on the match," Zonneveld told Viaplay afterwards. Of course, he was aware of the consequences of the game. After all, if he won, Zonneveld would keep his Tour Card. "Especially on this stage there is extra pressure."
Although the Dutchman said he had little trouble with nerves. "The last few days I was quite nervous, but beforehand I felt good. I thought: we're going in nice. But nothing at all," he sighed. "Normally I'm much better scoring than this."
Despite losing his Tour Card, Zonneveld is not giving up. "We're going to Q-school again. That's for sure."
