Cross averaged 94.7, hit three 180s and two ton-plus checkouts as he produced a brilliant surge towards the end to claim the opening victory in Nottingham.
Aspinall missed the bull for a 121 and Cross came back to hit double four to hold throw and claim the first leg.
The former hit a picture perfect 180 for his first of the night but missed double 16 for a 110 checkout. He wasn't punished though and Aspinall smashed in double eight to tie the match up at 1-1.
He followed this up with a break of throw on 32 with Cross well back throughout the leg. 'Voltage' hit his first 180 and broke back to make it 2-2 in a scrappy encounter so far.
Aspinall missed a 108 for another break of throw and Cross hit double eighteen to go 3-2 up and hold. The duo exchanged 180's but it was Aspinall who was down to a finish in an 84 and he hit it to tie it level at 3-3.
Aspinall pinned double six to edge ahead for the second time with another break at 4-3 up with a 100 average.
Cross broke back though with a 116 checkout and he held with a 50 checkout to go to within one of at least a point. Aspinall held though on double 14 to make it 5-5 and keep it very much tied up.
'Voltage' from there smashed in a double 16 to ensure he will not be beaten and he concluded the win with a 112 checkout.
