Rob Cross' superb debut year in the PDC continues as the European Championship finalist became the latest player to qualify for the Grand Slam of Darts.
27 year-old Cross, whose PDC career began in February this year, earned the spot thanks to his run in Hasselt. 'Voltage' joins the likes of Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor on the list of stars confirmed for the Wolverhampton event. The stars from the PDC and BDO clash in the only tournament open to players from both codes from November 11-19.
It has been an exceptional year for Cross, who has earned more than £150,000 in his maiden year as a professional. Former electrician Cross goes into the Players Championship as the number one seed, having won four events since March. The Grand Slam place was offered to Cross for reaching the European Championship final.
However, the news means two-time world champion Adrian Lewis' Grand Slam chances hang in the balance. Twice a semi-finalist, Adrian Lewis loses his provisional Grand Slam spot due to Cross defeating Daryl Gurney in his semi-final in Belgium.Lewis must now reach the final at the World Series of Darts Finals, or qualify as part of the PDC Tour Card Holders' Qualifier in Wigan on November 6.
