Cross sees off Smith in deciding leg thriller to confirm Last 16 line-up at UK Open

Cross was ahead for most of the contest but was forced into a decider by a buoyant Smith, despite that a missed dart at a 164 for the victory allowed the former World Champion a shot at 60 which he took as 'Voltage' moves through.

Smith and Cross were basically level at the interval with 'Bully Boy' missing double 12 for a 144 checkout; Cross from there closed the gap though to 3-2.

Smith streaked ahead from there going 4-2 up with a 14 darter for a hold; but with a hold and a break of his own, this was soon cancelled out by Cross to make it 4-4.

Cross from there made it four legs on the spin to move two clear at 6-4 up; as he seemed to begin motoring with the form book going firmly out of the window.

Smith missed further darts when they returned and Cross was soon 8-5 up with the former staring down the barrel at defeat.

He didn't give up though and produced a break back to make it 8-7; with an 85 checkout on the bull. Cross went one away from there but missed multiple darts for the match allowing Smith to take outt 118 in the requisite leg on the bull to force a decider.

It was Cross though who claimed it to win an absolute thriller against Smith and to put his name into the hat for the Last 16 after Smith had missed 164 on the bull to take it.
