Groups A-D are complete at the
Grand Slam of Darts with
Rob Cross and
Michael Smith the last players to move through in contrasting wins on Monday evening.
Smith sealed top spot in Group C first of all with a superb display to defeat Ritchie Edhouse 5-1. This also featured a 102 average from 'Bully Boy' who is joined by
Joe Cullen who played his part by defeating Lisa Ashton and Smith then did him a favour by seeing off his nearest rival.
It will be Cross next up for Smith, with Cullen set to face Dirk van Duijvenbode but Martin Schindler will be ruing multiple missed opportunities against 'Voltage' who snatched a 5-4 win after surviving four match darts in a dramatic end to the evening.
Cross has reached the Last 16 now six times in as many attempts but had to recover from 3-0 down to do so and survived match darts at 4-2 down with nerves getting the better of the German.
This seemed to be the nail in the coffin with Cross finding the break he needed at 4-4 and his survival was complete pinning double four for a place in the Last 16.
