The final of the Hungarian Darts Trophy in Budapest is set with Joe Cullen set to face William O'Connor shortly as the 10th European Tour title of the season will be decided.
For Cullen, it would be a first European Tour title since 2020 when he sealed the International Darts Open with his only other title coming the prior year at the European Darts Matchplay. While for O'Connor, it would be his first and only his second PDC title.
In moving through, 'The Rockstar' took down Dave Chisnall punishing three missed match darts from the St Helens ace to wrap up a 7-6 victory averaging 98.5 with six 180's and 53% on the doubles en route.
It was nip and tuck throughout as Cullen edged ahead at 4-3 with a 106 checkout but Chisnall levelled with a 74 checkout for parity at 4-4. The fine finishing from Chizzy continued as he took out 83 for a 14-darter to move 5-4 up only for Cullen to replyy with an 11-darter to break back.
They continued as Chisnall pounced on a missed 147 checkout to make it 6-5 only for Chisnall to squander his three missed match darts and Cullen sent it the distance with this proving fatal as the Masters Champion sealed it.
While O'Connor ended the weekend of Nathan Aspinall who continues his European Tour anomaly of never reaching a final despite his prowess.
He fell in a closely fought 7-5 defeat to 'The Magpie' who was superb when it mattered most after spurning match darts initially at 6-4 up.
In control from early, he hit double 20 to break and go 4-2 up with Aspinall only averaging 78 and was soon one away hitting double eight to make it 6-3 but Aspinall as usual fought and hit a 110 checkout to make it 6-4 before pouncing to hit 66 after O'Connor squandered five match darts but next time around, he didn't make the same error sealing it 7-5 on double 18.
