There is a new incentive for the best darts players in the world next week at the World Grand Prix, with Boyle Sports donating £20 to charity for every double 20 pinned in the competition. The darter who finds tops the most will choose which charity the money goes to.
This is a continuation of last year, with James Wade finding tops more than anyone else on his way to the quarter-finals. The Machine accumulated £7,300 for charity, which was rounded up to £10,000 for Wade's charity of choosing: Bipolar UK. He managed to pin tops 40 times, with the red target at the top of the board being found a total of 365 times in 2024.
The World Grand Prix is a unique tournament on the darting calendar, known for its double-in double-out format. Double 20 is a popular target for many players, not just because it is their natural double, but it is the highest target on the board you can start with, apart from the challenging bullseye, making it a natural pick for this challenge.
"The double-in format always makes the BOYLE Sports World Grand Prix a standout occasion to shine a light on some brilliant causes and we’re excited to see which player comes out tops," said Brian O'Keefe, Senior Media Relations Manager for BOYLE Sports. "Partnering with the PDC once again gives us the chance to make a real difference for the chosen charity, while celebrating one of the most exciting and unique events on the darts calendar."

Who to watch out for

There are some obvious candidates for the 'D20 for £20' Charity Challenge. Last year's winner, Wade, will always be a contestant, boosted by his marvellous form. The two heavy favourites for this would be Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price. After a brief spell on double 16, The Nuke has returned to his reliable tops, finding it on a consistent basis. Price is widely known as the best double 20 hitter in the world, with the Welshman synonymous with the target. When he is playing at his best, you rarely see him miss the target.
Ryan Searle is also someone to look out for on the target, with that his go-to double. Recently winning his second Players Championship title of the year, Heavy Metal is a threat to any player once he finds his range on tops. Other obvious candidates are Luke Humphries, Gary Anderson, and Josh Rock, who also like to vary it up on double 16.
