The theme in the middle of Friday's evening session at the German Darts Championship has been commanding victories for Daryl Gurney and James Wade.
Gurney will now face off against Ross Smith after seeing off Vincent van der Voort with 'Superchin' who has shown good recent form brushing aside 'The Dutch Destroyer' who has been anything but.
He won through 6-2 with a 95 average, three 180's and 50% on the doubles in a polished display. It was four straight legs for Gurney after initially being locked in a 2-2 with Van der Voort. It began with a 127 checkout to make it 3-2. Another highlight was an 11-darter 76 checkout to make it 5-2 before he finished the job.
Prior to that, it was Wade towards his best in another clinical display. He saw off Jelle Klaasen 6-2 with a 94 average just below his opponent as well as 6/15 on the outer ring (40%). Next up is Nathan Aspinall for 'The Machine'.
While in a tight contest, Ricardo Pietreczko delighted the home crowd with victory over Mickey Mansell.
It was a 91 average for 'Pikachu' as he produced three 180's with scoring proving the difference as Mansell shaded the numbers of the outer ring with 40% compared to 37.5%. But in the end, it was the German ace who moved through. It will be an all German affair next as Martin Schindler is his second round opponent.
