The opening day of action at the German Darts Championship is complete with Chris Dobey, Stephen Bunting and Gabriel Clemens moving into Sunday in Hildesheim.
Clemens registered a comfortable 6-3 win to delight the German crowd who have also seen Ricardo Pietreczko win this evening who will face off against Martin Schindler tomorrow. He saw off Danny Jansen this evening in an impressive win with a 95 average and a high checkout of 102 despite missing 17 darts at doubles.
Bunting was impressive to end the evening as he saw off Jeffrey de Graaf making his return to the European Tour as a Swede instead of a Dutchman. But it was 'The Bullet' who moved through to continue his recent impressive form.
He had to battle though with De Graaf going 5-2 up and couldn't close out the match as Bunting reeled off four consecutive legs to win 6-5.
It was even more dramatic for Chris Dobey who was pinning his hopes on surviving in the race to the European Championship in the final European Tour of the season. He survived three match darts in the deciding leg against Lee Evans.
He then took out 70 to seal a 6-5 win and is now into the provisional spots. So close to going out, but he stays alive and will now aim to join the field for the end of October.
