Daryl Gurney is through to the third round of the 2025 PDC World Darts CHampionship holding off Florian Hempel in the process who makes the stage his own usually and seemed well on his way to victory.
Gurney twice came from a set down to claim victory and averted overtime in the process. He pinned a 98.3 average, five 180's and 45% on the doubles. Next up he will face Jonny Clayton for a spot in the fourth round just after Christmas.

Hempel hit the front early clinching the opening set 3-1 with two 180's and a 103 average. But Superchin stayed on his coattails. He sealed the second set in style with a 156 checkout to restore parity.
He was sat averaging 99.3 at the time and it was very much game on. But Hempel started to bounce ahead as he eased through the third set in three straight legs to go back ahead at 2-1. He had pinned three 180's and a 99 average. But there was yet to be a twist in the tail.
Gurney missed 121 on the bull and Hempel came back again to exquisitely produce a 64 checkout on double eight for 2-2.
But while Hempel was seemingly in the ascendancy, he couldn't break the throw of Gurney as he held to send it to a deciding set in which Hempel had the throw.
Hempel was broken though to start the deciding set. Last dart Gurney hit double 12 to go one away from the win suddenly. Hempel missed 156 on double 18 to hold but he returned.
He now needed a break to force overtime. Gurney missed 96 for the match but Hempel missed two for the win and 'Superchin' returned to claim the win and avert overtime.
