Saturday night's darting action is underway in Munich with
Steve Lennon,
Daryl Gurney and
Joe Cullen all progressing to round 2 at the
German Darts Grand Prix.
In the opening match of the evening, Lennon took on home hopeful, Lukas Wenig. In truth, both players struggled to find their best form, with averages languishing in the mid-80s for much of the contest. In the end though, it was the Irishman who proved to have that little something extra, taking a 6-3 victory.
Next, in a battle of two multiple major winners, James Wade and Daryl Gurney faced off. Whilst the tie was nip-and-tuck in the opening exchanges, a mid-match spurt from Gurney saw 'Superchin' win three straight legs to go from 2-2 to 5-2 and although Wade did manage to pull one back, the dye had been cast and it was Gurney who prevailed 6-3.
In the performance of the night so far,
European Tour stalwart, Joe Cullen then dismantled former UK Open champion Andrew Gilding 6-2. Averaging just shy of a ton (99.62), firing five 180s and pinning a pair of ton-plus checkouts, Cullen sent out an early tournament warning.
