Daryl Gurney is comfortably into the Last 16 at the
Baltic Sea Darts Open in Kiel after taking down
Dirk van Duijvenbode 6-3 in a clinical display.
Van Duijvenbode grabbed the 1-0 lead, but in the second leg Gurney dealt a blow, he checked out 103 and Gurney surged into a 1-3 lead in 15 darts each time.
Van Duijvenbode came back to 3-3 with fine 15- and 11-darters, and could even make it 4-3. He didn't, however. Then Gurney hit 87 to regain it. In leg 8, 72 was also out within 15 darts, and so Gurney finished it right after that. Van Duijvenbode remains winless on the Euro Tour this year.
In the first match of the Saturday afternoon session, German qualifier Franz Roetzsch surprised
Josh Rock by winning 6-3. After Rock led 2-0, the German won six of the next seven legs. Roetzsch will take on Danny Noppert or Raymond van Barneveld tomorrow in the last sixteen.
Josh Rock and doubles has been a tiresome marriage since his breakthrough at the PDC. After Roetzsch came back from 2-0 behind to 2-2, Rock let failure on the doubles break him to 2-3. He allowed the German to come into the match and gain confidence.
Roetzsch then walked to the win with steady scoring and good finishes. He finished it off with a handsome 13- and 15-darter.
