Daryl Gurney and
Gerwyn Price are the two latest names in the hat for the second round of the 2024
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.
Against
Dirk van Duijvenbode, Gurney had to face the crowd as well as his opponent. The Dutchman was immediately put behind by the Northern Irishman in front of his own crowd. With a 68 finish Gurney provided a break, and the lead was then doubled with a 14-darter. Van Duijvenbode then opened the third leg with a 180 and halved the deficit with a 15-darter.
Van Duijvenbode had a chance for a rebreak in leg four, but missed four darts to make it 2-2. Gurney then made it 3-1 with a 20-darter. In the fifth leg, Gurney missed a chance at a double, and that miss was punished by a 110 check-out by Van Duijvenbode. The Aubergenius then equalized and made it 3-3 with a 13-darter. However, after a missed double on double 18 Van Duijvenbode again lost his own leg. A 107 check-out and a 72 finish gave Gurney a 5-3 lead. Van Duijvenbode kept in the match with a 13-darter, but then saw Gurney decide the match with a 71 check-out.
Gerwyn Price also managed to qualify for the second round of the World Series of Darts Finals at the expense of
Cameron Menzies. 'The Iceman' won fairly comfortably 6-2 over the man who has been in blood form in recent weeks.
With an average of 95.92, Menzies certainly wasn't playing bad either, but Price played just a notch better. Throwing out 98, 72, 76 and 84, among others, gave Price a 5-1 lead. The Welshman was then able to finish the job in the seventh leg, but missed his first two match darts on double 16 and double 8. Menzies then reduced the deficit to 5-2, before Price ended the match with a 15-darter.
