Peter Wright reached the last sixteen at the
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam with a big win over Dave Chisnall. 'Snakebite' won 6-1 over his English opponent.
Wright was having a poor season, but has rebounded in recent weeks. He reached the semifinals at the New Zealand Darts Masters and then surprisingly won the German Darts Championship. 'Snakebite' was also on a good run at the Flanders Darts Trophy, but Wright was stopped in the quarter-finals by eventual winner Chisnall.
The Scot, however, now took revenge on "Chizzy," who recorded a disappointing performance with an 87 average. Wright immediately grabbed a break lead in the first leg with a 120 finish and ran out to a 4-1 lead via two 15-darters. Then the two-time world champion closed with a 66 finish and a 17-darter.
Rob Cross also started the tournament with a big win. The former world champion only had to concede two legs in his match against the experienced Simon Whitlock, who missed too many chances on the doubles.
Cross started his match against "The Wizard" just fine with a 12-darter and a 60 check-out. The next two legs went with the darts, before Whitlock missed six chances to break Cross in the fifth leg. In the sixth leg, Cross missed four doubles of his own, then Whitlock hit 79 to close the gap to 4-2. Cross then took the lead back to three with a 104 finish, before ending the match with a 61 finish.
