Glen Durrant is the Premier League champion after claiming a 11-8 win over
Nathan Aspinall to end a remarkable debut year for both players.
Especially the three time Lakeside Champion who has now added his first PDC TV title, he began his debut season by heading to the top of the Premier League standings before Coronavirus struck.
He returned at the restart and won the League Phase and beginning the play-offs, he saw off Gary Anderson before then defeating the Stockport ace in a brilliant victory to cap off an excellent opening foray in the tournament.
It was a very close start to the tie with both players holding their throw which meant they were locked at 5-5 with Aspinall restoring parity at 5-5.
Durrant regained the upperhand following this with double 16 for a 100 darter. Aspinall replied with a 100 checkout to level at 6-6.
A big moment followed with Aspinall missing three darts at doubles and Durrant broke to claim an 8-6 advantage.
A brilliant 127 and game saw Durrant go ever closer at 9-6 up. He wired the bull following that though and Aspinall hit a 96 finish to hold and trail 9-7.
Durrant though put Aspinall onto the point of no return with a 72 checkout making it 10-7. Aspinall produced a brilliant 130 to leave 40 to hold his throw. He finally pinned it with Durrant not able to add the pressure.
He composed himself for a leg which could change gleam his first major title and he smashed in a 180. A 140 left himself on 84, he strayed into the one but had a shot at double 16 which me missed.
Aspinall put pressure on with a 120 which would have been a maximum, a bounceout aside and Durrant couldn't get the job done once more.
He hit it next time and let out some real emotion as he claimed Premier League glory to end a brilliant season.
