De Sousa averages 114 to claim title on Day One of PDC Super Series 3

Jose de Sousa has claimed his fifth PDC title on the opening day of PDC Super Series 3 in a truly mesmerising display to defeat Luke Humphries 7-1 with a 114 average.

De Sousa came off the back of some brilliant Premier League displays and had Humphries in disbelief throughout the tie as he averaged nearly 120 in parts against 'Cool Hand' who was into his third PDC ranking final in six events.

De Sousa went 2-0 up early on with a brilliant stat including a break from the Portuguese ace.

Humphries fired back though with a 101 checkout on double 12 to make it 2-1 after De Sousa made a mess of finishing on 124 drifting into treble nine.

De Sousa though replied on the same target for a 10-darter to break again and followed that up with a 180 and a 96 checkout for an 11-darter to consolidate that and make it 4-1.

He was sat up at around 115 average wise with Humphries not able to do a lot given the prowess of De Sousa. He left 81 and pinned it after Humphries missed bull for a 126 and it was another 11-darter for the Grand Slam champion.

He followed that up with a 14-darter to make it 6-1 and started with a 180 on Humphries' throw as his average went to 116 and hit another to leave 41 which he pinned to make it 7-1 with a 12-darter.

De Sousa missed double 20 for a 116 checkout but he returned to three at double 10 to claim victory.
