De Zwaan closing in on securing World Cup of Darts debut

Jeffrey de Zwaan is making the most of the golden opportunity at the World Grand Prix. He reached the Quarter-Finals with victories over Jamie Hughes (2-1) and Gabriel Clemens (3-0). The Dutchman faces third seed Gerwyn Price for a place in the Semi-Finals.

De Zwaan had actually not even qualified for the World Grand Prix, so his chance of participating in the World Cup of Darts next month seemded to be gone. But after positive Covid-19 tests by Adrian Lewis and Stephen Bunting, The Black Cobra received a late call to enter the double-in event in Coventry.

With his two victories he already overtook Jermaine Wattimena on the provisional PDC Order of Merit. Danny Noppert is still above his fellow Dutchman, but Noppert lost to Gary Anderson in the second round.

This means that De Zwaan only needs one more victory to become the second Dutchman - behind Michael van Gerwen - on the world ranking after the World Grand Prix. The PDC previously announced that the teams will be confirmed after this tournament. They normally select the two highest ranked players per country.
