Debutant Clayton produces sensational victory against Van Gerwen to book Premier League Darts final place

Jonny Clayton is into the final of the 2021 Premier League Darts on his debut after a sensational 10-8 victory over Michael van Gerwen to open up Finals Night.

Clayton who only got into the Premier League after winning the final of The Masters in January has continued his incredible year by seeing off the five-time champion who was favourite to add a sixth crown.

This was with a 103.2 average and 63% on the doubles and he will now face the winner of either Jose de Sousa and Nathan Aspinall who are set to face off shortly. This means a new first time Premier League champion will be crowned in 2021.

Clayton held the initiative early on until the first interval claiming a break of throw and going two clear but the interval seemed to help Van Gerwen.

He claimed three legs on the spin to make it 7-6 and move ahead of the Welshman but it was Clayton who produced when it mattered by hitting a 62 checkout to level at 8-8 followed by a break of throw to make it 9-8 before taking out 121 for the match.

Will it be an all debutant final between Clayton and De Sousa or will Aspinall make it through and write the wrongs of last year's defeat to Glen Durrant? Finals Night has been blown wide open!
