Luke Humphries has dumped out
James Wade to conclude the afternoon session on Day Two at the 2021
World Matchplay.
After losing out in the UK Open final to 'The Machine', he made light work of the number four seed with a 10-3 victory averaging 101 and producing eight 180's along the way.
Humphries kicked off superbly with legs of 15 and 12 darts including
the latter where he was on for a nine-darter as he took the game to Wade.
He continued his impetus going into the breaking leading 4-1
with a 69 finish on double six allowing him three legs clear of Wade.
A 6-1 lead sent Wade potentially to the brink but he revved
into life with a 148 checkout on tops allowing him to close the gap to 6-2 only
for Humphries to return to make it 7-2.
A 140 left double 10 for Humphries which he pinned to
consolidate the break and make it 8-2 as he was flying towards the second
round.
An 84 checkout on the bull closed the gap for Wade to 8-3 but
he still had a lot of work to do. But a seventh 180 and double 12 saw Humphries
move to the brink at 9-3.
A 180 and double four salvo saw Humphries see out a crushing
victory to gain a measure of revenge for his UK Open final defeat after Wade
missing one dart to prolong the tie from 78.
