Michael van Gerwen is through to the Quarter-Finals at the
World Grand Prix after seeing off
Devon Petersen in a straight sets victory.
Van Gerwen hasn't had the best of times against 'The African Warrior' as of late but so far this week, he has continued to show what happens when chances aren't taken against him.
This was the story in this one with a lot of costly missed set darts being the difference from Petersen and somewhat flattering the 3-0 scoreline.
It was the case in the opening set with Petersen missing two darts to wrap up the first set and Van Gerwen made it 2-2. From there he punished in the decider to make it 1-0.
Petersen hit a brilliant 180 to pressure to begin set two but Van Gerwen in typical fashion smashed in a 146 to lead in set two.
From there, the former set up a last leg decider but another chance evaded him as he missed five set darts allowing Van Gerwen the shot at double two which he utilised to double his lead.
His doubling woes continued and Van Gerwen broke throw in the third set and doubled his lead from there. Petersen held his throw but this proved nothing more than a consolation as Van Gerwen won through.
