“Did it get shown? Would've been well disappointing" - Luke Humphries relieved to hear nine-darter was televised on dodgy night of Sky Sports Premier League Darts coverage
Luke Humphries went down in his opening match on Night Five of the 2025 Premier League Darts in Brighton. The early lead leader lost 6-4 to Rob Cross in the quarterfinals. Still, there was reason enough to cheer for the 30-year-old Englishman as he hit a televised nine-darter for the first time in his career.
Humphries remains the leader in the Premier League Darts standings (he does see Luke Littler approaching to within two points), but mainly because of that nine-darter in his match against Cross, Humphries was mostly positive in his post-match reflections. "I was disappointed to lose the game," he told the media afterwards. "But overall I think the better player won. Rob was fantastic there."
"I’ve hit about five or six nine-darters in my career, but it’s always a special feeling to do it on the big stage, and the crowd went wild which was amazing!" continues the world number one. "Of course I would have rather won the game, but it’s a really nice memento!"
Humphries is also now set to receive a set of gold darts worth roughly 30,000 pounds, donated by the main sponsor of Premier League Darts, for his nine darter. Given the issues with the Sky Sports coverage of the action on Thursday night though, Humphries was more concerned about just making sure his perfect leg was actually shown on TV. “Did it get shown, maybe? Just about luckily enough. That would’ve been well disappointing, hit your first [televised] nine and they don’t even show it on TV," Humphries laughs.
Luke Humphries in action
As mentioned above, Humphries continues to lead the Premier League Darts standings. He is now still two points ahead of number two, Luke Littler.
Humphries now travels on to Belgium, where he will be in action starting Saturday at the Belgian Darts Open. Humphries will take on the winner of the first-round duel between Mike De Decker and Thomas Lovely in his opening match in Wieze.
