Michael van Gerwen looked a bit different to usual tonight with the recent World Championship finalist rocking his new black anniversary shirt for this weekend only at the Winmau World Masters. But it was the same mission as he eased past Bradley Brooks 3-1.

Apart from a messy second set, Van Gerwen offered Brooks little chance with 'Bamm Bamm' who has been perhaps one of the players of the month through his Q-School exploits and also in qualifying for this unable to produce on the big stage.

But it is a learning curve against MVG who went through the motions and could face Gary Anderson tomorrow. The new shirt reflects his five years at Winmau and he has just signed a new 10 year deal, it is black with gold instead of Green for the Dutchman but it wasn't an unlucky omen as he moves through.

Van Gerwen started superbly with an 88 checkout on the bull for a break. MVG missed three at double 20 for the opening set but Brooks never looked settled and was never in the race in set one.

Brooks looked to make a good start but a 171 left 94 for MVG who got the first go at 94 and shut the door with an 11-darter to make it 1-0.

A 64 checkout saw Brooks finally get on the board. But he couldn’t get a break and Van Gerwen hit another 171 and looked likely to win the set with Brooks unable to take a chance at 138. But he missed more darts at double and Brooks pounced for 1-1.

With a 68 checkout, Van Gerwen broke to get back on track. A 106 checkout saw MVG seal the set and he was throwing for the win in the next set. An 80 checkout saw MVG lead the way and he went five darts into a nine-darter.

Van Gerwen missed 128 to win in style. Brooks missed 47 to stay in it and Van Gerwen sealed the win.
