On Friday, the
Austrian Darts Open gets underway in Graz. Who will not be part of this fifth tournament of the
European Tour 2025 is
Dimitri Van den Bergh. The Belgian is taking a break for the time being and it is unclear when he will return.
Van den Bergh was normally scheduled to be in action at the Players Championship in Rosmalen last week. However, two minutes before the start of his first-round match against Portuguese Jose de Sousa, Van den Bergh pulled out because he did not feel ready to play. He also did not return to action the day after and last weekend he also gave up for the German Darts Grand Prix.
'The Dreammaker' had a good start to the year with a semi-final place at the Winmau World Masters and the last sixteen at the UK Open. Since then, however, things have been particularly difficult for Van den Bergh, who has been piling up defeats. So now Van den Bergh has announced that he will not be in action at the Austrian Darts Open either. He is looking week to week when he will resume competition.
Rumors
The Belgian newspaper HLN reported the following: "The withdrawals fuel rumors that he is considering a break from darts. It is heard in the corridors that he wants to take a two-month break, but there is no confirmation of this in his entourage for now."
Who will also follow the whole situation with due attention is Mike De Decker. At the World Cup of Darts in June, Van den Bergh would normally form a duo for Belgium with De Decker. If Van den Bergh is absent for that tournament as well, Kim Huybrechts will be back in the picture as the third highest ranked Belgian on the world ranking list.
