Van den Bergh could even afford quite a few misses on the doubles. At 6/23, he recorded a finishing percentage of only 26 percent. Fagg's finishing percentage was even lower at 14 percent.
In the first leg, a lot of doubles were already missed. Van den Bergh missed six chances to keep his own leg, after which Fagg struck with his sixth break opportunity. Fagg then missed one chance to cash in on his break, after which Van den Bergh tied the match at 1-1 with a 13-darter. The Belgian then needed five chances to break his Australian opponent, but a 19-darter made it 2-1 for Van den Bergh. The reigning UK Open champion then moved up a level, hitting a 92 finish and a 16-darter to make it 4-1. With another 16-darter and a 15-darter, Van den Bergh then managed to close out the match.
Following Van den Bergh, Gerwyn Price also secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Australian Darts Masters. The world number six started the World Series tournament with a 6-2 victory over Brenton Lloyd. Price came out with a respectable performance. He posted a 95 average and a 46 percent finish percentage. After the first three legs of the match went with the darts, Price posted a break in the fourth leg with a 17-darter for a 3-1 lead.
The Welshman then threw a 15-darter to lead 4-1. Lloyd then threw a 17-darter to cut the deficit to 4-2 before Price decided the match in his favor with two 13-darters.
