Dimitri Van den Bergh made the semi finals of the
UK Open for the second consecutive year as he saw off a despondent
Martin Lukeman with a 10-5 victory.
Van den Bergh cruised through the opening part of the match, with checkouts of 80 and 132 seeing the Belgian soar into a four-leg lead. He missed darts to whitewash the first session though, and Lukeman finally got one on the board.
Lukeman was in just his third last eight appearance in a stage event. 'Smash' had a breakthrough year in 2022 when he was a finalist on the European Tour and made the quarter finals of the World Grand Prix. The 38-year-old admitted earlier this weekend that health concerns with his wife had impacted his form in recent times.
He found a crucial break of throw in the nineth leg, but failed to take out 164 in two visits in the next and allowed Van den Bergh to break straight back with a clinical 76. The World number 14 never looked back after that, winning four of the next five legs to progress to the last four just as he did in 2023, when he fell to Michael van Gerwen.
