Dimitri van den Bergh showed his absolute top form Monday during the first
Players Championship tournament of the season. 'The Dreammaker' posted an average of no less than 113.97.
After already beating Michael Smith 6-4 in the first round, Van den Bergh faced Cameron Crabtree in the last 64. However, the English talent was left hopeless 6-1 after a sublime performance by Van den Bergh.
The Belgian had an excellent start to the match, firing an 11-darter in the first leg. Then a 125 finish brought him to a 2-0 lead, before Crabtree got on the scoreboard with a 13-darter in the third leg.
However, Van den Bergh immediately caused a rebreak and took a 3-1 lead with an 11-darter. A 14-darter made it 4-1 before Van den Bergh threw his third 11-darter of the match. He then closed the match in style with a 118 finish. In total, the native of Antwerp threw six 180-scores, three 11-darters and two 100+ finishes.
The average of 113.97 is not a personal record for the two-time major winner. During a Players Championship tournament in 2021, Van den Bergh already managed to throw an average of 116.90 once.
