Martin Schindler has qualified for the quarter-finals at the European Darts Open at the expense of Dirk van Duijvenbode. Van Duijvenbode led 4-1, but eventually lost 6-4.
Van Duijvenbode started the match sharply. Schindler was not out in five innings in the third leg before breaking the German with a 14-darter. With two 16-darters, Van Duijvenbode then extended the lead to 4-1.
Schindler then reduced the deficit to 4-3. Van Duijvenbode missed one chance on double 7 in the eighth leg to maintain the lead. With an 85 finish, Schindler signed for the equalizer.
Van Duijvenbode then failed to break Schindler in the ninth leg. He started the leg fantastically with scores of 180 and 134. This was followed by scores of only 40 and 72, giving him only one break opportunity in his fifth turn. Schindler missed it and then held his own leg via tops. The Wall then completed his comeback by ending the match with a 14-darter.
Kevin Doets also suffered a sensitive defeat against Dave Chisnall. The 26-year-old Dutchman lost 6-4 to Dave Chisnall, missing out on important pounds in the qualifying race for the World Matchplay.
Chisnall led by a break in the third leg by throwing out 86 in Doets' leg. However, 'Hawk Eye' hit back by throwing out 128 in the fourth leg for a rebreak. The next four legs went with the darts, after which Doets was broken again in the ninth leg. With a 10 finish in the tenth leg Chisnall finished the job.
