Luke Littler's preparation for the Czech Darts Open got a nasty edge for him Friday night. The 18-year-old Englishman, who will face Cameron Menzies in the second round on Saturday night, let it be known via social media that he felt mistreated upon arrival at his hotel in Prague.
The world number two arrived late in the Czech capital and was met by a group of enthusiastic fans who wanted to have their picture taken with the world champion. Although Littler initially went along with that, the situation soon got out of hand. According to him, he was verbally scolded and even grabbed from behind by a fan before he plays in tonight's Czech Darts Open.
On Instagram, Littler reacted angrily to the situation. "Just came to the hotel in Prague, got a few pictures bearing in mind it's 20 past 11 here. It's busy so got a few pictures with a few people and as I've gone to walk off someone has grabbed me and wanted a picture, you don't grab someone just ask nicely. How hard is it."
He continued, "And for the fella who came up to me and my dad shouting oi and then saying my behaviour is bad and I'm not bigger and better than anyone. DO NOT GRAB ME FROM BEHIND because that's bad behaviour. Not me because as soon as he grabbed I said do not grab me and walked away."
The incident is not an isolated one. Littler already faced hostile public reactions earlier this year, particularly in Germany, where he was regularly booed in Berlin and Munich. The youngster even threatened to boycott German tournaments, although he will soon be at the oche at the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim.
On the sporting front, Littler is actually doing well. The teenage sensation recently won the World Matchplay, the Australian Masters, the New Zealand Masters and last week also added the Flanders Darts Trophy to his rapidly growing list of honors. In Prague, "The Nuke" is now aiming for another title to further enhance his impressive season.
