After becoming the lowest-ranked player to ever defeat
Gary Anderson at a
PDC World Darts Championship, a fiery
Chris Dobey revealed a comment made to him by the two-time former world champion had got him fired up.
With Dobey formerly in the same management team as Anderson, the pair know each other well. But a comment made by the Flying Scotsman to Dobey as they were off-stage for the final tv break of the match sealed Anderson's fate. "Gary said something to me in the last break and I didn’t like it," Dobey said, being careful not to reveal the actual comment. "There was no way he was winning that game after that."
"I come out, the man I am and tried to forget about it," he continued. "He’s a class lad but I didn’t agree with what he said. There was no way he was winning this game. I’m not going to say, I’m not going to talk. He said something I didn’t like."
Following what must go down as one of the biggest wins of his career to date, Dobey was congratulated on Twitter by none other than the former 16-time world champion, Phil Taylor. The Power tweeted "@Dobey180 Congratulations on a massive win today buddy well done you played great."
Dobey will now face either Rob Cross or Mervyn King for a spot in the Quarter Finals.
