Dobey ends Sherrock's World Championship fairytale to set up derby clash with Durrant

Chris Dobey has ended the run of Fallon Sherrock in a brilliant display from the Bedlington ace who had to battle the boos to put in a professional display to reach the Last 16 at the 2020 PDC World Championship.

Dobey hit a 101 average with 11 180's and high checkouts of 141 and 100 en route as he sets up a Newcastle-Middlesbrough derby on the Alexandra Palace stage against Glen Durrant.

Both players began the contest by hitting a 180 but Dobey missed two darts at double which allowed Sherrock to claim the early lead. Three 180s were hit in the opening two legs saw Sherrock double her lead and despite Dobey claiming a foothold, Sherrock cemented her dream start by wrapping up the opening set 3-1.

The Milton Keynes ace continued that by pinning a 104 checkout but Dobey responded well going 2-1 up including hitting seven perfect darts en route to going 2-1 up and Sherrock pounced on poor finishing from Dobey to pin a 96 checkout and go 2-2.

Dobey once again threw for the set with a 106 checkout but missed double 16. Despite that, Dobey had another go at it but couldn't convert. Despite that he came back to pin double two to make it 1-1.

Sherrock though returned with another exhibition of doubling smashing in a 142 checkout en route to claiming a 2-1 lead in sets.

Sherrock missed a 120 checkout on double 20 to hold and Dobey broke on the same double himself. She missed 89 to break back and Dobey cool as you like hit double 16 first time.

Dobey missed double 14 for a 121 checkout and Sherrock herself missed a 68 checkout and Dobey pinned double 14 to make it all square.

Sherrock came back to the board and smashed in a 124 to ask the question of Dobey and break the throw of the Bedlington ace. A 76 checkout saw Dobey break back immediately.

The former missed a 120 checkout on double 20 and so Dobey came back to hold his throw and go one away from taking the lead in sets. From there, he pinned a 41 checkout with Fallon well back on 210 to break throw and take the set.

Sherrock couldn't hit 64 and Dobey continued to find his rhythm finding a 100 checkout to break in a pivotal stanza of the contest.

He cemented this with a 141 checkout to go one away and he concluded this with a 94 checkout to end Sherrock's fairytale.
