Chris Dobey is through to the third round at the 2020 PDC World Championship after defeating Ron Meulenkamp in a 3-2 sets victory.
Meulenkamp came from behind being down at 2-0 down and missed match darts after composing himself to send it the distance but Dobey ended a tiebreak thriller to cap off an excellent performance.
Dobey made a brilliant start to proceedings winning the first set 3-1; after losing the first leg and he hit a 94 average and 3/3 on the doubles.
He did the same in the next set sealing it brilliantly 3-1; as his fine finishing continued up to 6/7 meaning that Meulenkamp had a lot of work to do.
Meulenkamp hit the front in the requisite set though holding through with a 60 checkout and Dobey fluffed his lines for the first time in the match as he squandered three darts at doubles and this allowed Meulenkamp to double his lead.
He ended up winning the set from there taking it in consecutive legs to halve the deficit; this asked the question of 'Hollywood' who had the throw in the next set.
These weren't answered and Meulenkamp started to believe winning back to back sets to force a decider. Meulenkamp was ahead for the first time and extended it to going one away from victory with a brilliant 11 darter.
Dobey wasn't done though; Meulenkamp failed to win the match allowing Dobey to break. Meulenkamp missed match darts and Dobey sent it to overtime.
Dobey went one away with a brilliant break of throw; on his third attempt he served it out bringing to an end a thriller.
