Dobey was facing Michael van Gerwen once again and at the 12th attempt, he finally sealed a win over The Green Machine who continues his barren run of titles on ITV after winning all prior Sky Sports aired majors this season.
It was a match that had it all with Dobey surviving four match darts from MVG before sending it to a decider which saw him hit two 180's and an 84 checkout to come up clutch when he needed it most with a 6-5 win featuring a 100 average.
This after 'Hollywood' was subjected to a comeback from MVG after he initially went 4-2 up and the Dutchman turned the tables with a 160 checkout which many would have seen as the nail in the coffin but the missed match darts allowed Dobey a lifeline which he took full advantage of.
While for Clayton, he ended the charge of the other German player in the draw in their Number One, Gabriel Clemens. It was Martin Schindler who went out earlier to Jose de Sousa and 'The Ferret' sealed a 6-4 win to end proceedings.
This featured a 97 average and 46.2% on the doubles from Clayton with his doubling being the factor that saw him edge over the line in the end.
