In 2020, Chris Dobey did not have the year he was expecting with no push past the Last 16 in any major.
But he admitted the circumstances around the season and the truncated nature of certain ranking tournaments such as the European Tour didn't help in qualification.
"The circumstances didn't help. We were knocked down European Tour wise, we didn't have as many of them to play in and that's where you make your money. That helps big time towards the TV competitions," said Dobey to Online Darts.
"Unfortunately for myself, I made two or three of them which wasn't enough for the European Championship. I think the Winter Series was probably the worst time in my career, I didn't play well at all."
"I played alright in the Players Championship Finals but didn't get the result I wanted against Madars (Razma).
"I felt good after that game so I changed a few things, took that in the World Championship and I felt I played well. It's just Daryl played a little bit better."
Dobey has been known for years as a great talent but wants to live up to that promise now. "I want to win something, I think that's all I'm lacking," he added.
"I've been through bad patch after bad patch and got myself out of that so if I can actually win something, hopefully push myself into that top 16."
