Double Dutch delight as Wattimena thrashes Montgomery, Plaisier continues European Tour brilliance with Hughes win

The first round has began at the European Darts Matchplay with double Dutch delight as Jermaine Wattimena and Wesley Plaisier as well as James Wilson have made it into Saturday's action in Trier.

Wilson began proceedings off with 'Jammie Dodger' seeing off 'The Sweet Ferret' Johan Engstrom in a 6-3 win featuring an 84 average from the Huddersfield ace as well as a trio of 180's with Rob Cross now awaiting next up who himself has been in superb form on the European Tour this season.

As has Plaisier with the talented Dutchman who reached the Quarter-Finals of the German Darts Grand Prix saw off Jamie Hughes in a high quality 6-4 win. After trailing 1-0, he produced a 91 and 167 checkout and despite being broken, he took the lead again before he sealed the match with a superb 111 checkout.

He will be joined by Wattimena who eased past Ross Montgemery in a 6-1 win. It was a poor display by 'The Boss' who was on debut on the European Tour but didn't average over 79 in the end.

While for 'Machine Gun', it was an average of 87 and a checkout percentage of 40% and next up will be Nathan Aspinall.
