There was Double Dutch joy as Danny Noppert and Jermaine Wattimena secured passage through to the second round at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.
Noppert defeated fellow Dutch compatriot Jeffrey de Zwaan in an excellent 6-3 victory as he marked his
World Series of Darts Finals debut well.
De Zwaan took an early break but Noppert responded straight away halving the deficit and then smashing in a 138 checkout to square it all up at 2-2.
It was JDZ who snuck into the break at 3-2 up though capitalising on missed double from 'Noppie' to go ahead himself.
It was successive legs though as hit the front at 4-3 up including a break as Noppert looked to cruise towards the finishing line. This he did; De Zwaan pressured but he went one away and claimed the victory from there defeating a heavily fancied opponent.
Wattimena also displayed class in a clinical display of finishing going 6/7 as he also delighted his home crowd to end the night.
His opponent was World Series finalist Gabriel Clemens and he started the brighter of the two claiming the opening leg with a 107 checkout. Despite that though missed darts from Clemens were duly punished as Wattimena broke going 2-1.
'The German Giant' stayed in touch smashing in a 124 checkout to go 3-2 behind. Again though it was two legs ahead for Wattimena as he went 4-2 up and his fine finishing brought him towards the finishing line to go with one.
Clemens kept the match alive at 5-4 down but couldn't hold on for much longer with Wattimena smashing in a 111 match checkout to win.
