Jermaine Wattimena produced a statement display to begin the
Dutch Darts Masters at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam seeing off Jonny Clayton in a 6-5 win.
Wattimena was up against it early on in the short format as Clayton doubled his lead with a 68 checkout on double four. A 116 checkout saw ‘Machine Gun’ fire back to make it 2-1.
He kicked off his throw with a maximum as he looked to make the sea of orange roar and he hit a 52 checkout to make it parity at 2-2. He missed 125 on double 12 to make it 3-2 and was punished as Clayton shut the door and regained the lead.
Wattimena hit back with a 95 checkout with Clayton sat waiting to break and make it 4-2 and it was parity again at 3-3. But Clayton took out 99 with 19 and two double 20’s to make it 4-3.
A 177 saw Clayton in the box seat but he missed a 63 checkout to break and Wattimena returned for double eight to make it 4-4. But again Clayton edged ahead with Wattimena having to force a decider. He did just that with a 122 checkout.
Wattimena was first to a finish and despite not hitting the 150, he hit a 138 to leave double six. Clayton could not get a dart at 116 and ‘Machine Gun’ sent him packing.
While for Fallon Sherrock, she will now head to Barnsley after an early defeat to
Maik Kuivenhoven with the calm and collected Dutchman having an easy night's work winning through 6-1.
After a poor start, a 174 from Kuivenhoven saw him down to 85 on Sherrock’s throw which he pinned on the bull to break. A 76 checkout saw him double his advantage.
Sherrock got off the mark in leg three but missed four darts at double in the next which gave Kuivenhoven a 3-1 lead. The Milton Keynes ace hit her first 180 of the match but the Dutchman went 5-1 up and sealed it from there.
