Darter Prakash Jiwa has been handed an eight-year suspension by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) for match-fixing and betting on matches. This means he will not be allowed to participate in DRA events, which includes PDC tournaments, until Nov. 6, 2031. In addition, he must pay a fine of £17,741.46.
Jiwa was found guilty by the DRA Disciplinary Committee of rigging four matches in the MODUS Super Series and betting on darts results. He was, however, acquitted of obstructing the investigation.
The DRA stressed in a statement that the integrity of the sport must be maintained. John Pierce, director of enforcement at the Gambling Commission, commented. "All betting customers in Britain should have confidence that bets placed with licensed gambling businesses are on markets that are fair and free from betting-related corruption.”
The investigation found that no other players were guilty of the same offenses in the games in question. Jiwa has until March 19 to appeal the ruling.
The 54-year-old Jiwa appears to have a continuation of his darts career on his mind due to the lengthy suspension. The darter has secured a PDC Tour Card three times in the past and played at the 2023 World Darts Championship, where he lost in the first round to Madars Razma. On the Pro Tour, Jiwa has competed against top players such as Michael van Gerwen, Adrian Lewis, Peter Wright, Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson. Against the latter, Jiwa even won two of his three encounters with "The Flying Scotsman.
Jiwa is not the only darter to receive severe punishment recently. Leighton Bennett was previously found guilty of 10 counts of match-fixing and received an eight-year suspension and an 8,100-pound fine.
In addition, Billy Warriner was punished for providing information about the same matches and acting as an unofficial bookmaker. He was also found guilty of threatening and abusing an official. Warriner received a 10-year suspension and also had to pay 8,100 pounds.
