Jonny Clayton did not reach his best level in the opening round of the
World Matchplay. Still, he defeated German Gabriel Clemens 10-8.
"That was tough," opened Clayton, who dedicated the win to his ailing father. "It wasn't the best version of Gabriel Clemens, but it wasn't the best version of Jonny Clayton up there either, I done my job and that was it. There's been a few nerves, a few things things going on, but this crowd has been amazing."
"Yeah, just my second victory in six years, this means a lot to me," Clayton laughs wryly. "It's amazing, absolutely fantastic. This one's for you Dad!"
